A drunken reveller left a pal scarred for life after attacking him a broken bottle in a nightclub.

Steven McCarthy, 25, repeatedly struck childhood pal Jonathan Bennett with the weapon at the Funktion Rooms in Pevensey Road, Eastbourne.

Today McCarthy was jailed after he admitted battering both Mr Bennett and Sam Scobie, another friend of his.

Lewes Crown Court was told the violence erupted in the early hours of March 9 last year.

Mr Bennett, 24, suffered a cut below his left eye which needed five stitches.

He also sustained two cuts to his head during the assault.

McCarthy, of Beechy Avenue, pleaded guilty to wounding and assault.

Recorder Stephen Males, QC, jailed McCarthy for three years and four months after reading psychiatric reports.
