Brighton MP Caroline Lucas to make badger cull plea in Parliament

The Government needs to "set in stone" its plans to ditch its controversial badger cull, Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas said today ahead of a debate on the policy in the Commons.

Ms Lucas said the decision by ministers this week to delay the cull until next summer was "welcome news" but the Government should take the opportunity to make a complete U-turn and announce plans to abandon the policy completely.

Speaking ahead of a debate in the Commons today, she said: "The delay until 2013 is welcome news, but we now need to set this in stone and stop the cull altogether.

First time I have ever heard 'Brussels' Lucas make any sense. Shame that her animal rights ambitions don't stretch to banning Kosher and Halal meat production; every time I have asked her if the Greens would be prepared to stand up against this cruel, inhumane and barbaric system, she has replied that we have to 'respect cultural sensitivities'.

I have to say I fully support the cull of badgers because it would bring down the exorbitant price of shaving brushes.

When you have no ideas about the economy I suppose you have to appear to be doing something.

She's only doing it to get her eyebrows spared the cull as well

For once I am in total agreement with Ms Lucas.
Inane comments about shaving brushes apart her opposition to the cull may focus on just how maverick the Tories are and headed by a PM Dame Wishy-Washy!!
I have lost count of the policy proposals where there has been a 180 degree turn - Thatcher, if she is cognisant, no doubt abhors what no. 10 & friends are doing and, in her heyday would no doubt have hand-bagged the whole toff Cabinet!!

Errmmm, if you disagree with what the gov proposes and they then listen and change their mind how is that wishy-washy? Driving on regardless of any changes or new evidence is foolish, listening and changing what you are planning surely is showing a bit of sense something most governments clearly lack.

Well done Caroline Lucas - I'd like this unelected bunch of idiots to be booted out of the country, not just government.

To the idiot who uses badger hair shaving brushes - you know what I and many others think you are - there are plenty of alternatives to use - stop being evil.

I know very little about Lucas or her policies. However any report about her does seem to bring out the loons to comment. I don't know whether this implies that she is a loon herself or not.

I don't know enough about the science behind Bovine TB and whether badgers are as responsible for the spread as 'scientists' say - it's hard to find independent studies that aren't sponsored by one side of the argument or the other - but, true or not, it's just so sad to see such a beautiful, indigenous wild animal being slaughtered in its thousands for the sake of the big money meat and milk industry

Cull them all the TB ridden pests that they are.

The Greens(sorry REDS) should be culled at the same time as the badgers.
the similarites are interesting - both are a nuisance, badgers have black stripes down their faces.whereas Lucas has a yellow stripe down her spine.....

It's simple. If you want to keep your current council pad for facilities you have to pay for them, so increase council tax.
It's a no brainer.... unless of course you don't mind living in a third world city.
