Plans for £150 million Worthing regeneration on track

Developers behind a £150 million regeneration scheme have promised the plans are still on track.
Planning permission for a massive redevelopment of the Teville Gate shopping area in Worthing was approved more than a year ago.
Rumours have been circling locally that the scheme, first discussed 20 years ago, had collapsed.
Yet those behind it maintain they are “firmly committed” to the plan which includes two towers and is being dubbed Worthing Gateway.
A spokesman for developer Hanson Capital Management said: “It is a large and complex development and the project team is currently undertaking a significant amount of additional work to refine the details of the scheme to enable work to commence.
“We look forward to announcing more details of the timetable for delivery in the near future.”
Under the plans, the existing mix of rundown buildings and car parking would go, to be replaced by a mixed-use development.
This will include a multi-screen cinema, restaurants and cafes, a food store, a hotel, a health and fitness centre, offices and a multi-function conference and exhibition centre.
Two residential towers containing 229 apartments and car parking spaces for 967 vehicles are also proposed.
The scheme would see the existing roundabouts replaced by traffic signals and pedestrian crossings.
The plans have been drawn up by Brighton-based Russell Drage Architects.
