Multi-storey Hove car park free plea

Campaigners have collected more than 400 signatures calling for free parking in a multi-storey car park.

Conservative Party members created a petition asking for Brighton and Hove City Council to make parking free at weekends for everyone at the structure in Norton Road, opposite Hove Town Hall.

This would be extended to at all times for residents with Zone N parking permits. The petition was presented to the local authority at its full council meeting last night (October 25.

Central Hove ward councillor Andrew Wealls said: “It makes no sense to have a car park in the centre of Hove sitting empty – let people use it to benefit residents, visitors and local businesses.”

The issue will be referred to the council’s transport committee for further consideration at its meeting on November 27.

Way too much common sense in this idea for it to ever be approved by our loony left council....

Ridiculous idea, why should some people benefit from free parking and others don't?

The petition is ludicrous, won't be progressed and people involved in it would do better spending their time cleaning the streets.

Presumably the green response to this will be to increase the prices further, since the only way to measure the success of their parking policy is by counting how many empty spaces there are.

Great idea! My mother relives in norton road and she has a permit. There is a real problem with parking in that area. Sometimes if she arrives home at night she has to park streets away because norton road is so packed. I think she would appreciate this idea . It makes total sense. It's the same as using the road with a permit so why not the council muti storey at weekends. Bravo petition campaigners.

Fully support access for permit holders, everyone else should have to pay.

Personally don't care two hoots for your mother. The walk will do her good.
