A man has been charged after a taxi driver was robbed at knifepoint in Newhaven.

Marcus Streeter, 20, unemployed, of no fixed address, is due to appear at Eastbourne Magistrates Court today, charged with robbery of £265 cash on Saturday, October 27.

He has also been charged with theft of a Vauxhall Cabrila and aggravated theft of a Saab Turbo, both in Newhaven between October 7 and 9, and making off without paying for fuel in Peacehaven on October 9.

The charges follow an incident in Western Road, Newhaven, just after 4.30am on Saturday, October 27, when a taxi driver reported he had been robbed at knifepoint by a fare he had just driven from Brighton.

A police search of the area resulted in an arrest nearby soon afterwards.

The stolen cash was recovered and the taxi driver was not hurt.
