Traders launch petition against Brighton parking charges
11:50am Saturday 10th November 2012 in News
The old Co-op building in London Road, Brighton
Campaigners have launched a campaign to reverse parking charge increases they argue are crippling their businesses.
Traders in London Road have launched an e-petition on Brighton and Hove City Council’s website to return the parking charges to their previous level for the London Road car park and for on street parking, including the first 20 minutes for free.
A paper petition held at shops in the area has already attracted more than 500 paper signatures and organisers hope they can attract 1,250 votes online to trigger a debate at a council meeting.
To sign visit present.brighton-hove.gov.uk before November 29.

1. Seriously, Argus, why are you obsessed with London Road all of a sudden?
2. A few days ago it was junkies, pound shops and squatters what was crippling that street. Now it's parking charges. Make up your mind, Argus.
3. At least someone is doing something against parking charges other than whining in the comments. Or does anyone really think that calling the Greens 'loons' over and over again is going to solve anything? Less trolling and more action!

Parking enforced via CCTV from Hove through to Brighton up Lewes Road and London Road.
Crippling parking charges,Unnecessary road works causing grid lock for months at our expense (THE Drive/Cromwell Road and Lewes Road Coldean Lane for example)
Which businesses can afford to continue to operate in the center? The Lanes are about to be closed off for good (more road works and expense )
Lewes Road will be reduced to a single lane Dials will be shut.....

If parking charges go up then it is true that travel patterns will change, but some of the tales of woe in the articles seem far fetched.
I wish the traders of London Rd would concentrate on raising their game. I only go there for specific things as it is pretty shabby, it is not a street that I would generally do a bit of window shopping and make unplanned purchases. That is nothing to do with parking!

We would take the chance to spend time together by having an early dinner on the seafront before she would drive to work and I would walk home or run if I had not eaten too much. She finishes some shifts at hours when public transport does not run so she has to drive.
Often we would be among a few diners as no one goes out early in the week
In winter. We helped keep these places going.
We have stopped doing this due to the charges. However, the money we've saved means we are going to Bordeaux for a cycling trip with some wine tasting. It's cheaper to fly and stay in a hotel than to park and eat six times in town.
Sorry traders. My wife hasn't got much time before a shift to eat and get to work and we won't add a tenner to park on the deserted seafront.
Think of my new carbon footprint.
Anyway I am still waiting for the Greens to tell me how Caroline Lucas travelled to Stanmer park this week.
Not one has answered. Was it in the cycle lane or by bus?
I'm waiting for some honesty.

If anyone believes that this Green Party will listen to what anyone else has to say you must also think the moon is made of cheese. The only vote they will listen to is when they are booted out and that day cannot come soon enough.

This council is run by top class vermin and it is so easy to charge car drivers whatever they like.
