Wheelchair plan for Brighton Marathon

Brett and Luke Edwards plan to complete the Brighton Marathon together Brett and Luke Edwards plan to complete the Brighton Marathon together

Running a marathon can be a gruelling and daunting task.

But one man has upped the ante after announcing he will run next year’s Brighton Marathon while pushing his disabled son in a wheelchair.

Doting dad Brett Edwards, 41, will be sharing the marathon experience with his 10-year-old son Luke who has cerebral palsy.

The pair will take on the 26.2 mile route next April to raise money for disability charity Scope.

Mr Edwards said: “I hate running and I have never done anything like this before, but once I give my son that experience I can say he has done a marathon. It’s a personal challenge for both me and him.”

Luke was born ten weeks early and spent the first two weeks of his life in intensive care. After he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, Mr Edwards contacted Scope for advice and support.

He added: “I don’t know what I would have done without Scope. We just want to raise as much money for them as we can now by taking part in the Brighton Marathon together.”
