Youngsters at St Luke's using the new compost bins
Waste bigger than a double-decker bus will be composted instead of being sent to landfill, thanks to a new scheme.
Almost 250 homes are now taking advantage of Brighton and Hove City Council and Brighton and Hove Food Partnership’s community composting bins scheme, saving tonnes of waste from disposal.
Bins have been set up on land next to St Luke’s Church in Brighton to complement the community garden project set up last year.
Residents can compost their uncooked vegetable peelings, tea bags, coffee grounds and cardboard to help create a rich, |organic compost, full of nutrients.
Councillor Pete West, chair of the environment and sustainability committee, said: “These schemes provide the perfect way for residents to reduce their waste and create something really useful that can benefit the whole community.”

actually, I should have put "where is the community garden"
I have been involved in setting up this community garden and compost scheme.
The community garden is behind the church. The intention is for the compost to primarily used in the garden, but if too much is produced, then we will re-distribute it out to those that have been part of the scheme.
Hope that helps
