Police called after woman climbs scaffolding at Brighton hotel

Police and firefighters were called after a woman climbed up some scaffolding.

The woman climbed up the Phase One hostel in Oriental Place, Brighton, at 1.15pm on Friday, November 16.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “About half an hour later she came down and has been arrested.

“Inquiries are at an early stage and no further information is immediately available.”

Hotel or hostel? Is there a difference in Brighton? I think I know the answer for Hove already.

Is it really a crime to climb up some scaffolding?!

Was she mentally ill? If so, why was she arrested rather than an ambulance called? If she was showing signs of mental illness and did this I am disgusted that the police arrested her rather than helping her.

As she only remained on the scaffolding for 30 minutes it is not possible to exclude the possibility that she works as a scaffolder. However, 30 minutes is long day for scaffolders...must have included a tea break. That might also make sense with regard to mental health issues?

Wrong headline. this is a hostel for vulnerable single people, NOT a hotel.

No, but with questions like that LeoBrighton I believe you're on the wrong forum.

Or helped her by arresting her. Why are you disgusted she was arrested? Police cells have a much better frontline mental health service than any local hospital.

I'm gonna expand on my last post because I'm a bit annoyed about the ignorance.

Both hospitals and police stations have psychiatrists and doctors (and lots of medical staff). I've been to both quite a lot. Based on 4 police station visits, average wait time for a psychiatrist is 4 hours. Based on 4 hospital visits it's 8 hours. A hospital psychiatrist has released me early 3 times, a police psychiatrist never has. A hospital visit means a costly ambulance visit, lots of time in ER, and unless there's space in Millview, time in a police cell.

Maybe you should find out if she was mentally ill before being disgusted. You seem to be disgusted about what might have been the case.
