A great-grandmother of ten who had her wheelchair stolen has been given a new one.

Widow Joyce Hill, 82, was devastated when a thief nabbed the chair outside her home in Wartling Court, Butts Road, Southwick, on November 5.

Her daughter Sallyanne Redden, 46, had left it there briefly after fundraising for the Royal British Legion.

Mrs Hill, who is frail and suffers from arthritis and diabetes, was left housebound.

But now Clearwell Mobility, based in Warren Road, Woodingdean, has offered her a new one.

Mrs Redden went to collect it yesterday and said: “My mum is absolutely made-up. She was really taken aback when it was offered and we are so pleased and grateful.

“It was stolen six minutes after it was left and police have not found who took it.

“But this is an upgrade and will enable her to get out.”

Natasha Long, from Clearwell, said: “When we read in The Argus about Joyce we were horrified.

“The wheelchair allowed her to get out and about and was so important. That someone could take it is awful. We were happy to help.

Sussex Police described the crime as “despicable”.
