Traders and residents gave a butcher a helping hand to get his goods across the road.

The human chain of helpers for M & B Meats yesterday (November 22) were protesting against restrictions preventing the Brighton butcher from unloading outside his London Road shop.

Butcher Graham Maides said: “If I stopped outside my shop for just a few minutes to unload I wouldn’t cause disruption because the road is wide enough but I’m not allowed to.

"But if I park where I can get away with it, I hold up traffic because it’s only one lane. We can only hope the council will listen.”

A Brighton and Hove City Council spokeswoman said the restrictions were in place to prevent delays and that there were places nearby where Mr Maides could unload goods.
