A pensioner was taken to hospital after a car smashed into a sign on one of the busiest roads in Sussex.

Emergency services were called to the A27 in Falmer, Brighton at about 7pm yesterday (November 25).

A blue Vauxhall Zafira heading eastbound collided with a Highways Agency message board and a stationary lorry off the roadside.

The 48-year-old female driver suffered minor injuries.

A 79-year-old female passenger, who suffered serious but not believed to be life-threatening injuries, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

A further passenger also received hospital treatment for minor injuries.
