New Brighton cinema has legs
8:50am Tuesday 27th November 2012 in News
New legs for Brighton's Komedia in artist Jamie McCartney's studip
These legs are to perform a permanent high kick this morning above a city centre landmark.
The exuberant limbs – in hooped tights – will signal the presence of the Duke of York's Picturehouse inside the Komedia venue in Gardner Street, Brighton.
The three-screen venue is being built to allow the cinema to screen more arthouse films. The first public screenings are on December 7.
Jamie McCartney, the artist behind the Great Wall of Vaginas, was commissioned to design the new legs.
Unlike their bawdy counterparts on the main cinema building in Preston Circus, Gardner Street's legs have got a little over-excited.
One shoe has been sent flying, ending up on the roof of the building.
Mr McCartney said: “It was appropriate to add a comedy element, given the location at Komedia.”
The polystyrene legs are going up at 8am.
