Strip store of royal warrants, urges Brighton MP
12:40pm Friday 30th November 2012 in News
A foie gras terrine
An MP has urged the Queen to strip a store of its royal warrants, for selling foie gras.
Caroline Lucas, who represents Brighton Pavilion, accused London-based Fortnum & Mason of touting the prestigious awards while “improperly” promoting the luxury paté to its customers.
In a letter to the Lord Chamberlain, who oversees the warrants, Dr Lucas points to an investigation by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals earlier this year that allegedly uncovered cruelty to geese at one of the store’s French suppliers.
The letter said: “I am appalled that the mistreatment of geese and the sale of foie gras should be associated with the essence of Englishness.”
The pate is made of the liver of a duck or goose that has been specially fattened.
Foie gras force-feeding is outlawed in the UK, but it is still available from fine food specialists and in restaurants.
Dr Lucas added: “I know that my constituents feel strongly about such disregard for animal welfare and on their behalf I request that Fortnum & Mason’s warrants not be renewed until the company ends the sale of foie gras.”

Pink Bikes in Halfords, Pate in London, Can't be called Mr or Mrs.
Ridiculous women and so full of hate.
The sooner the snot Greens are out the better.
(However, foie gras is a very cruel process and should really stop in civilised society)

And no turkey either I guess, because they will have outlawed butchers in the town by then too.
Just presents of pink bikes for the boys and blue bikes for the girls.

In other news, 'Brussels' Lucas and her Marxist Green loons ignore record levels of poverty and homelessness in the city that was stupid enough to elect them....
Yesterday I noted council support for an innovative housing solution for the homeless and weekly there seems to be another develpment announced that will bring more jobs / houses or both.
Of course, I can't remember you ever posting anything positive about anything yet, let alone poverty and homelessness.

I didn't know so many of the, up-yours, park-where-I-want, drive-how-I-like club were also members of the foie gras cruelty appreciation society.
I have been Vegan for 25 years and hate ALL forms of animal cruelty but I am more concerned about poverty/homelessness
/drug abuse and pensioners who are so broke that they freeze to death than I am about 'Brussels' Lucas and her latest rant about foie gras.
If the Greens REALLY cared about animal cruelty, they would be fit in to ban Kosher and Halal meat production. Greens go strangely silent when asked their position on these barbaric practices...

What are you wittering on about?
We've been stunning animals for a couple of decades only - and that started to protect factory works not to ease the animal's suffering.
Islamic slaughter rituals are far nicer than our early factory farming attempts. Whether or not stunning is allowed is still debated by Muslims.
That the death should be clean and fast and that the knife should be sharp was codified in Muslim culture over 1000 years ago.
I agree that the situation needs to be improved, but suggesting that we should be driving divisions between huge segments of the population over an issue that will resolve itself over the next decade (in the first world, anyway) is tantamount to insanity.

I agree with Caroline. It is outrageous that in this day and age individuals are allowed to have freedom of choice. It wouldn't happen under Stalin so it has no place in a city administered by the Green Party.

With info from an impeccable source,
Ma Lucas got on her high horse,
And on behalf of those Greens,
She’s petitioned the Queen,
To take Foie Gras off her first course.
And, the woman with multple homes was serious too !
Priceless.

But as you are clearly not satisfied and I am not that bright perhaps you could point out which other parties would place these issues higher up their agenda? We still have poverty/homelessness /drug abuse and pensioners who are so broke that they freeze to death following 13 years of Labour government when there was some money around; they made a bit of progress but undone to my mind by encouraging a runaway housing market for one thing. The Tories? Don't make me laugh!

It is vile what is done to these poor birds!! How they suffer, is so terrible. Wish more people cared, instead of just thinking of themselfs. I pray this will be banned very soon. And keep on signing petitions, for this to stop!! So many animals abused, and murdered, the best thing I did, was become a vegan!! At least Caroline cares!!
