Finding The Fear – where in Brighton is that?

Crew and actors filming a scene from Channel 4's The Fear in September Buy this photo » Crew and actors filming a scene from Channel 4's The Fear in September

Channel 4 drama The Fear may be set in Brighton and Hove but many locations are far from the city.

During Tuesday night's episode (December 4), characters played golf at Hollingbury Park, drove south along Grand Parade – before turning right into Edward Street, wandered through the streets of Hastings old town, and had an unpleasant experience at Birling Gap.

Mystery surrounds the location of the suburban street next to a motorway bridge and the rural location of a plastic surgeon's office.

What areas of Brighton have you spotted in the programme and have you identified any locations elsewhere? The Argus would like to know.

Where is the night club by a railway bridge? Can't work that one out, or the art gallery.

Did anyone notice the location mistake at the start of the first episode? i.e. We see the main character nearly get run over by a unicyclist at the bandstand near West Pier heading towards Shoreham. Yet the next couple of shots are the limo passing the Palace pier heading back to Shoreham then the main character beating up the unicyclist near the Concorde 2?!

That's either a set, London or Bristol. It wasn't all shot here.

The Magic of Television...

I used to live in Leamington/Warwick where the series "Dangerfield" was filmed - and a scene was filmed just outside my flat - down an alleyway next to a tyre repair shop. The set had been mocked up to look like a nightclub, with doorway, (where there wasn't one) and signage and everything...

...it was strange as it was a blank wall
ordinarily...

So don't believe all you see.

@gingerDJ - a location mistake to you is only because you're aware of the continuity - to those not familiar with the area it's simply 'visual texture' - it makes no difference to them. :) - but well spotted anyway.

I personally blame the Green party for this. I think programs like these create an image of Brighton being full of drug dealing criminals, Albanian sex traffickers and unicyclists.

Lucas and Kitkat should be getting television producers to promote a more positive representation of Brighton.

Reminds me of the furore caused by the publication and filming of Greene's original Brighton Rock.

The hotel exterior was shot in Adelaide Crescent on the east side opposite the Lawns.

I blame the Green Party for the increase of Road Rage especially towards unicyclists. Bipedalism is an anachronism in this inclusive City.

"Mystery surrounds the location of the suburban street next to a motorway bridge"

This shot made me think instantly of junction 2 on the M32 in Bristol. Will try to freeze frame next time for a better look!

I think you're right, as I took a look on Google Street View.

What worries me is that some people have been asking if the main character is based on ME! Apparently he looks very similar......

The film crew should be congratulated on showing the Bandstand being used, I was hoping to see a live performance but have never even seen an advertisement promoting an event

You have an extra name Sarah Booker? Just an observation!

As for the Fear, I recorded the first episode the other night, is it worth watching? Any news on if it will be available on DVD and if the cast will be doing signed sales in WH Smiths? Ok......that last bit was a bit tongue in cheek!!

The sons beach house from last nights episode was filmed in Lancing,

In fact the building of the house was filmed for "building a new life in the country" A couple of years ago, and the Argus ran a story that read like a advert for the sale of the house a year or so ago,
