Christmas celebrations kicked off in style this week at The Argus Charity Christmas Carol Concert 2012.
More than 400 musicians, singers, volunteers and charity fundraisers gathered for the evening of festive performances at the All Saints Church in Hove.
Guests were treated to spectacular performances from the All Saints Church Choir, Brighton and Hove High School Senior Choir, Hangleton Silver Band and the Brighton Consort.
Popular screen and stage actor Israel Oyelumade was on hand to compere for the evening whilst readers included Brighton and Hove Mayor Bill Randall and All Saints Church Vicar, Rev Phil Ritchie.
The warm-spirited affair marked the concert’s 11th year since its formation in 2001.
Since then, hard-working fundraisers have managed to collect more than £100,000 for The Argus Appeal and the Martlets Hospice to help those in need.
David Goldin, chairman of the committee, said: “I was delighted to see so many people in attendance to support two very important causes in The Argus Appeal and Martlets Hospice.
“I would like to thank Max Kenworthy for his great job in conducting the evening, the Vicar Rev Phil Ritchie for allowing us to use his beautiful church and of course all the choirs, readers and our compere Israel.”
A special tribute was made to Derek Hunnisett, a loyal sponsor of the concert since it began in 2001. Mr Hunnisett passed away in 2011 but his wife Ellen has always been keen to keep the family involved.
Mr Goldin added: “We appreciate the kindness of Mrs Hunnisett for her continued and generous support for this concert.
“As said by her husband Derek, ‘Christmas starts here'."
