Sussex businesses approval to Chancellor's Autumn Statement

Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne
Leading business figures in the county have given a cautious thumbs-up to the Autumn Statement from the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Among the measures unveiled by George Osborne were a cut in corporation tax to 21% in April 2014 and billions of pounds of infrastructure projects.
Tony Mernagh, executive director at the Brighton and Hove Economic Partnership, said: “The additional £2 billion on infrastructure projects is welcome.
"It is a pity it couldn't be more, but since it is being taken from existing departmental budgets perhaps that's a blessing.
“The freeze on fuel duty was widely forecast but enhanced increase in personal allowance wasn't.
“This is a good move when disposable incomes are stretched. I am surprised there are no changes to high-end property taxes which would have pleased Liberal Democrats in the absence of a mansion tax.”
Nick Handley, executive chairman of Sussex Enterprise, the county's chamber of commerce, said: “The extension of the small business rate relief, a further reduction in corporation tax to 21% and the abolition of any short term fuel tax rise should benefit all businesses.
“On the down side, however, the lack of response to the recommendations made in Lord Heseltine's recent review on growing the economy is very disappointing.”

Tories are all the same - greed and stupidity...until it's their turn to play 'death on a trolley' in a hospital forced to divert resources to private companies that don't cover the full costs of the NHS. When that happens their glorious rulers need only spout something about 'illegal imigrants' to retain the devotion of their oafs.
If only Labour were not such incompetent twits or equally grasping scroungers.

Most people commenting on here probably voted for the Tories. Or didn't vote at all. So, it's your own fault if you're "on the bread line".
The Tories couldn't ever stage an outright win even though they were up against the least popular labour administration in decades.

So the Argus is now a propoganda mouthpiece for the most inept, corrupt, mendacious government in over a century. This lot make Thatcher look like a beacon of humanity.
How about this for a headline Argus: "The idiot Osborne once again gives his corporate chums a massive tax giveaway, whilst attacking the most vulnerable people in society".
There! That's a bit more honest isn't it?

I yearn for them to focus on GDP growth, get the economy back to full health, invest and move forward, not just savage cuts. Some of the statement I liked, some I didn't I work, so the benefits increases mean nothing to me. It's a mixed back. It should be an incentive for people to go out and work instead of sitting on benefits doing nothing and being a burden and cheating the tax payer. Benefits have been way too generous to people for too long, and I agree they should be capped. How else will you get people to work? Benefit scoungers are lazy pathetic excuses of humanity. Get a job and earn your keep. Benefits should be for people who need it. This probably will affect real benefit claimants, real disabled people, which is wrong.
I don't agree that the rich will pay more, a lot avoid tax. That must be stopped. Good to see some inroads made, but not enough. Rich people who avoid tax are the worst of the worst. That's getting rich and sticking the finger up at the very country you live in, its disgusting. They should be imprisoned.

All this whilst borrowing and spending more money than ever (that you say we haven't got). They've made some very rich tax avoiders even richer, as promised.
I'm proud to pay tax so we don't have to see people in genuine need suffering. These oiks are just as clueless but seem a bit more twisted as well.
The NHS is being whittled away and effectively privatised. Whilst Cameron is trying to increase already massive overseas aid payments - India even politely declined his strenuous efforts to hand over more money recently suggesting he should deal with poverty in the UK...whilst they invested heavily in their own space satellite exploration initiatives which brings us nicely on to ask which planet you are on.

I am reasonably well off and would be happy to give more to the poorer section of society however this council wants the money for its vanity projects which leave the poor out in the cold.
I will not give money to a group who have strangled a revenue stream, rebuild cycle lanes which are already adequate to serve two unis which are closed for months on end and whose students don't pay council tax, a council gives money to a viewing platform for a private company, which local poor families will never use, etc
It beggars belief, but they are no different from the other parties but perhaps that is because of the demographic of the councillors. Most are middle class, arty **** types who have never worked in UK industry or come from poor backgrounds.
I am sure the families in Moulsecoomb are delighted to have a new cycle lane..... now where's the money for bikes, gloves, hats, lights and even the batteries for lights.
Or you could spend £4.20 to get to the supermarket on the monopoly bus service which puts up fares unapposed which is granted swathes of land owned by local people to make profit for its private shareholders. Are you all mad? Where is the competition, where are the tolls on this company to pump into reduced fares?
This city is becoming elitist with its parking prices for the rich, seafront activities, the wheel the i360 which cost about £20 a family, its festivals which all cost to get in, it's monopoly bus service where a bus after 7pm onto some estates is as rare as hens teeth.
You are living in cloud cuckoo land if you think there are any socialists left.
Red, blue, green are all the same.
The Tories cleanse the poor openly, the Greens and Labour dress it up as community projects.....but only if you can afford the crepe paper.

Corporation tax REDUCED, to 21%. It's 30% in France and 40% in the USA. Just another little perk for his public school buddies in the City.
Welfare payments, normally increased in line with inflation, pegged at 1%. So the rich get richer, and the poor and disadvantaged suffer.
It's disgraceful. The poor are being made to pay for the sins of the bankers, who still continue to collect massive bonuses, whether they perform or not.
Revolution is what is needed.
