Manslaughter case dropped against four in case of man fatally injured in fall at work

Four men will not be charged after a 66-year-old man plunged 30ft to his death while at work.

The four were told that they are not to face criminal prosecution for manslaughter by gross negligence over a death of Lindsay Campbell at an industrial site in Ford, near Arundel, after he fell on July 25 this year.

It was about 8.50am when Mr Campbell, who was working at South Coast Skips, at the Rudford Industrial Estate in Ford Road, at Ford, plunged from a height. Mr Campbell, from Hampshire, died shortly afterwards. Another man, from Sussex, suffered injuries.

Four people, a 62-year old from Wickham, Hampshire, a 26-year old from Fareham, Hampshire, a 47-year-old man from Birdham, near Chichester, and a 50-year-old man from Bognor, were arrested in September and October, on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence and were due to answer bail today but were stood down.

The investigation was carried out by detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team with the support of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

The HSE are now taking the lead in the investigation and are considering prosecutions for offences under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Mr Campbell's family have been informed.

However the HSE are now taking the lead in the investigation and are considering prosecutions for offences under the Health and Safety at Work Act.' (from the Chichester Observer).
The Con-Dems have cut 25 per cent of the HSE's budget since 2010. By 2013 -14 that'll be 35 per cent.
Between 12,000 and 18,000 deaths a year are attributed to exposure to workplace hazards.
And official figures show more than two million British workers suffer some form of occupational ill health.
So much for "When we say we're all in this together, we speak for that worker. We speak all those who want to work hard and get on." Mindless/callous ConDem scum.
