Seven cars, two communal wheelie bins and a couple of bike were destroyed in a fire in Hove this morning.

The cause of the fire in Connaught Road is currently unknown but police and firefighters are at the scene.

Witnesses said they woke up to hear loud bangs and when they rushed outside they were stunned to see a line of cars on fire.

The Argus spoke to people who had lost their cars.

Really feel for the car owners. I know if this happened to my car I'd be angry beyond comprehension.

judging by the picture, i would deduce that it was arson. someone must have set fire to the cars, because the nearby building is not damaged

No doubt the traffic Nazis will be along to put a penalty charge notice on each smouldering wreck

You joke? It was terrifying, huge and shocking in speed of spread and intensity. Whoever did this should hang their head in shame. Thank you to the Fire Brigade – we were all okay thanks to you.

"The Argus spoke to people who had lost their cars" and pointed them towards the smouldering wrecks? I hope they also spoke to the owners of "a couple of bike" WTF?

This happened in my road and to my car a few years ago. There is a serial arsonist in the area it seems.

is it a jealousy thing? now some poor folk are going to have a rubbish Christmas all because of some twisted idiot! have they not thought that the cars could be owned by a disabled person or a DR? what about someone on a low wage or even benefits looking for a job? now the police "WILL" find the culprit/sthe CPS or the Magistrates will give them a slapped wrist ! Then the Police will be blamed for not doing their jobs right! Well I offer my sympathies to those affected and hope the Judicial system actually works this time!!

Two incidents in several years is hardly a serial.

Probably someone set fire to a communal bin rather than one of the cars. Happens a lot and if it was placed close to a parked car - boom. Sorry for those involved and hope they find the idiot/s that did it. Someone set fire to the paper recycling bin where I used to live and luckily the fire brigade were there 5 mins after I rang them or I reckon quite a few cars would have been destroyed.

I live in Hanover and I have these smelly bins right outside my front door.

If these had been burnt, I would not be writing this now.
