Crowborough pedestrian fights for life after accident

A man is fighting for his life after a serious car crash.

The 57-year-old man from Crowborough is in a critical condition in a London hospital following a crash on the B2100 Crowborough Hill in Crowborough at just after 5.45pm on Thursday.

The man was hit by a burgundy-coloured Ford Fiesta driven by a 52-year-old Crowborough woman who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving and bailed until February 7.

Sussex road policing officers are investigating the incident and have issued an appeal to find the driver of a silver car travelling west who stopped to allow the pedestrian to cross shortly before the accident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 101 quoting Operation Admiral or e-mail collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk

It says someone stopped to let the man cross. Seems the car in opposite direction wasn't aware and didn't stop. I don't think it's a good idea to ever stop on a main road to let someone cross. Best for them to wait till they can see road is clear both ways.

The reason the person stopped is as this is a zebra crossing which means your meant to stop to allow people to cross the guy was actually hit on the crossing!

Bizarre and sloppy reporting, if the commentators here are right that this poor man was a pedestrian on a zebra crossing. "Serious car crash" doesn't tell the story at all.
