Brighton and Hove praised for tackling late-night noise
7:30pm Monday 10th December 2012 in News
A council has been commended for its sound approach to nuisance noise.
Brighton & Hove City Council’s Soundscape project received national recognition at the Noise Abatement Society’s annual John Connell Awards in Westminster.
The project was rewarded for helping tackle late night noise and antisocial behaviour in West Street, Brighton.
During the White Night festival, the council created a 3D sound installation with the help of musician Martyn Ware, scientist Dr Harry Witchel, council officers, traders and residents.
The Soundscape, called West Street Story, was designed to calm the late-night atmosphere and create a happy, relaxed mood for revellers.
On Thursday, December 13, Brighton & Hove mayor Bill Randall, will present the award to officers involved in the project.
Coun Jason Kitcat, leader of Brighton and Hove City Council, said: “The West Street experiment resulted in a significant fall in incidents of antisocial behaviour and related noise levels.
"We are now looking at ways of using this to increase safety at taxi ranks and queueing areas outside clubs and bars.”

ss of having to fill in a noise diary you have absolutely no idea what we are going through. What a load of absolute rubbish this article is.We all have truly given up on this council in total despair, why don't you contact me and I can give you a 2 week noise diary for you to print(complete with pictures, that can't be used as evidence) and then give you the councils response. It makes you sick with despair.

And yes the Greens have been utterly useless in dealing with student lets in my community which apparently only happens on a Friday and Saturday.
Working people are ignored by this council which is handing the city over to the workless.
