Sussex Police are tweeting every call reporting domestic violence across the county today (December 14)

Detective Inspector Miles Ockwell, from Brighton and Hove Adult Protection Team, plans to show how often incidents are reported to encourage victims to come forward.

The tweetathon is part of the launch of Sussex Police’s new domestic abuse campaign and includes a video giving advice to victims.

There will also be two live webchats, from 12.30pm to 2pm and 7pm to 8.30pm, where members of the public can ask questions and seek advice about domestic abuse.

Follow the 24-hour tweet-a-thon below or on @Sussex_Police using the #talktome hashtag.

All Tweets will be added to a Storify here: www.theargus.co.uk/news/special/domesticviolencesp

Perhaps the police could do a follow up of these incidents highlighting the following

1. How many of these calls involves no injury, just a heated argument where the police have been called as a "threat" as opposed to a real need

2. How many of the incidents involve a drunken partner being silly

3. How many of the women (yes I know the odd bloke can be a victim!!) have been assisted by the police before but has chosen to return to the man because "she loves him" or "he won't do it again"

4. How many of these calls end up as recorded as the old counting rules stats.

5. How many of these calls are from the "homeless" or "street drinkers" community (the above woman kicked in the street in Brighton rings bells)

And when these statistics are revealed, we will see that the problem is not as great as you make out.

Don't get me wrong domestic violence is horrible and may even lead to murder or rape, but we need to do more to make women understand THERE IS A BETTER WAY and the man WILL NOT CHANGE.

And please do not waste time with abuse reported amongst the street community. Waste of money, waste of time and a waste of effort!

just another gimmick like the hospital's A&E tweetathon - what a waste of police time. Some people are obsessed with social media and think it is the answer to everything. How is this going to cut down on domestic violence? And they have to be VERY careful about what they make public anyway for all the legal reasons...

It's about time the issue of domestic abuse was openly discussed and it's severity made known.

The days of such abuse staying behind closed doors is over.

I hope this encourages those who are suffering to feel confident in reporting incidents to the police.

It seems only a small number of these tweets are actually about domestic violence.

Telling your wife the coffee's she's just made you is cold is classified as domestic abuse these days.No wonder it's trivialised.

Gimmick or otherwise I personally think be it a man or a women coursing the domestic abuse they should have there names tweeted to shame there behavior so everyone can see who they are.

Domestic abuse doesn’t just come in the form of violence it can also be name calling and constant verbal belittlement towards another person, like a man throwing his dinner up the wall because it was not what he wonted and calling her a dum ****.
