Crisis at Beachy Head (From The Argus)

and yet they still wonder why! people are so thick.

I think the police and courts should fund them. How much does one life saved save the local constabulary, life boat team, coast guard, undertakers, post-mortem, coroners enquirey and court.

Every person they save the plod should donate a few grand.

Nor am I surprised.Most of us are under intense pressure just to live,far less money,everything is dearer and we are all crammed into such a tiny island with little respite.If a major problem in our lives occurs then because a lot us live so close to the edge...well.Of course if we think back to when we were small our lives were intensely precious to our parents and loved ones as indeed we are now...

Oh good grief, don't go suggesting it should be run by the State! The first thing it would do would be to set up a "best value" analysis in order to generate some targets, before putting the whole service out to tender.

Better still, build a Crown Court up at the edge and have 2 doors for defendants.

An organization that discriminates!


I have no time for organizations that discriminate against non Christians wanting to be members. Wanting to get involved in volunteering to save peoples lives was something that I wished to do. I applied to the Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team to be told unless I was a devoted christian I was not welcome to join and was otherwise excluded.
I have since in my own time on one occasion so far managed to save someone who has been on the edge from ending up another statistic. Thats what frustrates me that this organization Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team is funded and allowed to stop people being involved unless they are devoted Christians and the fact the organization is partly funded by Sussex Police is surely promoting discrimination?

For now I will continue to work by myself as I believe in a fair world and everyone deserves to be treated the same. I am not the only individual that has been turned away for not believing in Christianity.

It frustrates me that we still live in a local society that is so divided by religion preventing individuals from being able to join and work as a team to save lives. I am some what saddened by the world we live where discrimination is suppose to be disposed of yet here we are having it promoted.

That is not to take anything away from the individuals that do volunteer in the Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team as I’m sure the work they carry out is excellent and saves many lives . It is simply the frustration of being unable to get involved because of my religion or belief which I think is simply wrong.

Maybe if the opportunity was available for all to get involved regardless of religion or belief then there would be more funds and more individuals involved leading to a more successful service?

Good post but don't let them put you off. Start your own non-religious or multi-religious group and perhaps you would eventually absorb the Christian Chaplaincy ones. The Christians don't own Beachy Head and can't bully or stop others doing good work there.

If i was on the edge and approached by a hi viz do-gooder spouting the bible! I know which way i would go!

Which is why such a sensitive matter should b dealt with in the most effective way. Excluding potential members because they do not have the same belief or follow the same religion is preventing this. It is also otherwise known as discrimination.

Build a dirty great big housing estate on Beach Head, no where near enough houses in that area.

Record number of people saved, along with the facts in the story mean the headline should be - RECORD NUMBERS OF PEOPLE SUICIDAL. But of course that would show that the Tories are responsible for the death and dismay of thousands in this country, let alone abroad.

Tragically, the overwhelming and crushing financial downturn is literally killing people!
Faced with vicious cuts and what seems like weekly price rises in commodities and dwindling resources in an overcrowded country, the outcome is sadly predictable.
Those responsible for bringing much of the world to it's knees have blood on their hands yet languish in enormous wealth made off the back of untold misery and despair!

Far too much money going on benefits to workshy malingerers and to support the unwanted dogs and cats that this population fail to look after.

Beach Head should be where this population have to visit to register a claim.and maybe we might just reduce the number of claimants on this basis.

I can only agree that any Chaplaincy team on Beachy Head should be non religious. I talked a lady down from there by phone after she shouted at one of the team 'Don't give be your religious bulls***. It's f****** Gods fault that I'm up here in the first place'.
