A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of rape after a 14-year-old girl said she was attacked in a park.

The boy, from Bognor, was in custody last night after the girl reported being attacked on Monday evening (December 17).

An area of Salthill Road, Fishbourne, near Chichester, was cordoned off today (December 18).

DS Russ Burgess, who is investigating the incident, said: "We have cordoned the area of the park at the back of Salthill Road and are making house to house enquiries.

“We are appealing for anyone in the area between 9pm and 10pm and who may have information, to contact police on 101.

“In particular we are appealing to a woman who was seen walking her dog in the park at that time.

"The two people involved were known to each other. Neighbourhood officers will be in the village to offer reassurance and answer any questions."

A Chichester Police spokesman said: “The area is cordoned off to preserve any evidence that may be at the scene. We ask that members of the public refrain from listening to rumours or hear say.”
