Council chiefs are calling for bright ideas to spruce up one of the “prime attractions” in Sussex.
Brighton and Hove City Council has signed off on running a consultation on the stretch of the seafront from Hove Lagoon to Saltdean in October.
The local authority received dozens of comments after the issue was covered in The Argus.
Now it has launched its official consultation for people to submit ideas to improve the iconic stretch while attracting more investment to the city.
Geoffrey Bowden, the chairman of the council’s economic development and culture committee, said: “Everyone has an interest in the seafront, wherever they live in the city, and we hope as many people as possible will get involved in the consultation and have their say.
“The seafront is the best known and loved feature of the city and attracts millions of visitors from this country and across the world each year.
“However we can’t be complacent, we have to look to the future and ensure the seafront continues to thrive and the draft strategy identifies potential opportunities for improvements.
“We want to broaden and enhance its appeal for visitors and residents – widening the main tourist area beyond the two piers and providing more year-round appeal.”
Have your say
The local authority believes the seafront contributes about £732 million to the local economy each year.
The consultation runs until March 8.
A series of events will also be held in the new year at various seafront locations to give people further opportunities to comment.
Feedback will be used to develop the final version of the seafront strategy, which will then go before the council’s policy and resources committee for final approval.
