A school is closed today after almost half of its pupils contracted the winter vomiting bug.
The head teacher of Chyngton Primary School in Seaford, Mandy Gard, took the decision yesterday as the number of children off sick with the bug or flu-like symptoms reached 190.
In a letter to parents she said: “This decision has been made as a result of discussions with the Health Protection Agency and the Healthand Safety Team at the local authority.
“I am very concerned that the spread of the disease close to Christmas could result in relatives of those in school being infected particularly the elderly, very young and vulnerable for whom the implications could be serious.
"By closing now we will be able to begin a deep clean without surfaces being recontaminated, and prepare the school for reopening after the holiday."
Earlier this week Tideway Secondary School in Newhaven closed earlier this week after scores of pupils and teachers fell ill.
