A wheelchair-bound pervert who abused an 11-year-old boy has been jailed for 13 years.
Jonathan Cavalier, 45, blackmailed the child into submitting to sex abuse in 2004.
A judge at Hove Crown Court told him: “You are a dangerous man.”
Cavalier, of Parkfield Avenue, Eastbourne, was a known sex offender, having served seven years for staging a masked gunpoint attack on a woman in 1988. He was later paralysed from the waist down in a motorcycle accident.
Yesterday (December 20) he was found guilty of two rapes and two sex assaults on the same boy. In 2004 he pretended to take the 11-year-old under his wing.
One day he pretended to have lost his wallet and asked the boy to help find it.
He used a hidden camera to film the boy looking, then told the child the footage could be used to make it look like he was a thief.
Cavalier made the child agree to sex acts, plying him with drink before abusing him. Judge Richard Hayward described the boy as a “troubled young lad” and said had gone on to suffer serious personal problems.
Cavalier kept diaries describing what he was going to do.
Judge Hayward told him: “You had clearly written in advance how you had planned to manipulate, corrupt and sexually abuse [him].”
He gave Cavalier a 13-year “extended determinate sentence”.
He will not be eligible for release until he has served two-thirds of his sentence, and then can only be let out before the full term is up with approval from a parole board.
After the 13-year term he must remain on licence for another seven years.
He is banned from having any contact with children under 16 unless their parents agree and are aware of his conviction.
He said: “I am quite satisfied you are a dangerous man, born perhaps out of physical and sexual frustration.”
