30 years for Gary Hampson's murderer
11:20am Friday 21st December 2012 in News By Ben Parsons
Victim Gary Hampson
A man has been found guilty of murdering Brighton car dealer and father Gary Hampson.
Daniel Alexander, 62, of no fixed address, was found guilty of murdering Gary Hampson, 42, at the Kop Cars garage in Little Western Street, Brighton, in January 2011.
Alexander co-ran the business, which was described by the prosecution as a front for drug dealing.
The jury returned its verdict earlier today (December 21) and the judge sentenced him to 30 years in prison.
Roy Bartup, 58, of Natal Road, Brighton, was sentenced too eight years in prison for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and a further year for possessing an offensive weapon.
He claimed he was carrying out a burglary in Surrey when he was dumping the victim's body.
Alexander’s girlfriend, Linda Rosenberg, 67, of Montpelier Road, Brighton, was found guilty of perverting the course of justice by trying to persuade Bartup to confess to the murder.
She was sentenced to three years in prison.
Alan Topping, 49, of no fixed address, was found not guilty of conspiring to pervert the course of justice by dumping the body.
Speaking after the verdict in her victim impact statement, Hampson's daugher said: "My one wish is to find him and simply say goodbye."
Read more about the verdict in tomorrow's (December 22) Argus.
