Burglars attacked Brighton home owners as they slept

BURGLARS broke into a Whitehawk home and battered the occupants while they slept upstairs.

The two criminals kicked down the back door of the home in Manor Way, Brighton at 6am on December 24.

The victims, aged 65 and 39, are believed to have been attacked with a brick and iron bar.

They were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

The suspects fled with the victims' mobile phones.

Detective Sergeant Suzy Maclintock from Brighton and Hove CID said: "We believe this may have been a targeted attack and would urge anyone who knows who was responsible to please get in touch as a matter of urgency.”

The suspects are described as white and were wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack.

Badly-written article, possibly taken from agency copy.

Why is it bad? First, to say a couple "slept upstairs" is fine if you say the burglars broke in "while the couple slept upstairs," but not if you say they were battered while sleeping because they are not "upstairs" to the burglars if they are in the same room.

Second, if the first paragraph refers to an address in Whitehawk, there is no need to refer to Brighton in the second par. Other way round, maybe, but people will know Whitehawk is in Brighton if they have read the headline.

Quite.People don't break into houses and batter the occupants for a couple of mobiles. Mobiles are easily nickable. Must have been a lot more to it. The obvious thought must be drugs but thats just speculation and I'm sure the Police are leaving no stone unturned.

How terribly bad-minded of people to even consider that anyone in Brighton would have a stash of drugs in their home. Shame on you all. Yo ho ho!
