Plan to build 50 homes in West Sussex

One of the country’s biggest property developers is planning to build more than 50 homes on scrubland.

Barratt Homes is proposing to build 56 two, three and four-bedroom homes at the site of the former Brooks Nursery in Barnham Road, Eastergate near Fontwell.

The developers say the land was formerly part of the adjoining nursery but is now lying fallow with much of the site overrun by scrub.

The proposed site, which is located between the villages of Eastergate and Barnham, will have 16 affordable homes and 154 parking spaces including 12 unallocated visitor spaces.

If I lived in the area I would be concerned about ''The affordable homes'', they always attract trouble.

Are we going to have another year of the Argus reporting on new homes being built? With the population expanding its bound to happen.

My first thought, before even reading Saraman's post, was -how are they going to regulate the visitor parking spaces to avoid them being permanently used by residents to store caravans, etc?

I thought it was austerity Britain but almost three parking places per house would indicate otherwise. No wonder the houses need to be affordable if people are running three cars.

Pardon me, what are you suggesting”they always attract trouble” are you saying people in council homes are “trouble” because they live in ''affordable homes'', maybe you ort to visit some privet estate around the country witch are owned by the people living in them and the type of riff raff you get on privet estates before you go making judgment on people living in affordable homes

Most probably Permit holders cards with visitor permit in the car window like you find of most hosing estates these days.

Pardon, are you saying because a person and his/her family can only afford to live in affordable homes they should not have cars et hasten to say but there are middle class family’s that can’t afford the high rents privet accommodation duo to the rents being to high but like you these family’s need there cars to get to work just like you do.

Overall, the country needs more housing. Fact. Barratts are better than most at building 'normal' family homes that normal people can afford.

Affordable can mean shared ownership, or rental, not just social or ‘council’ housing. Statistically, rental social housing for those on a low income can generate more anti-social behaviour, but good housing layouts and designs help reduce this. As does good parenting. However, education is free in this country, even spelling lessons. As is the use of F7.
