New Year brings baby joy
One of the first things Jayne Cann did in 2013 was call for help after her waters broke at 6am yesterday morning.
The expectant mother from Worthing was rushed to hospital and 45 minutes after arriving had given birth to her new born son, George, who weighed in at 11lb 5oz.
She was among several mothers across the county who brought in the New Year by bringing new life into the world.
Staff at Worthing Hospital said two New Year babies had been born before midday while Chichester Hospital midwives also delivered two babies just after midnight.
Staff at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, said they had delivered one baby before midday and a home birth at 1.30am in Brighton.
The 34-year-old Mrs Cann and her 47-year-old husband Paul are hoping they will be able to take their second son home today.
She said: “I stayed up for the bells and watched the fireworks on New Year’s Eve before going to bed and was then woken at 6am when my waters broke.”
First-time mother Kirsty Brown gave birth to her son Callum Brown early yesterday morning with her partner Marcus Brown, 23, at her side.
The 21-year-old, from Cavendish Place in Eastbourne, gave birth to 8lbs 7oz Callum at 3.58am on the first day of 2013.
