HOUSEHOLDERS are on flood alert after heavy rain.
Those living in Patcham, Brighton, have received visits from officials in recent days as water levels have risen.
The flooding will come from the Wellesbourne stream, the “hidden channel” which runs from the South Downs into the sea near Brighton’s Palace Pier.
Areas at risk include Old London Road, parts of Church Hill and Mill Road where they meet the A23 and the Recreational Ground.
Leaflets have been posted through neighbours’ doors and a rest centre will open if anyone needs it.
A spokesman for Brighton and Hove City Council said: “Although less rain is forecast over the next few days, we are continuing to closely monitor the ground water level and to work with the Environment Agency and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.
“If water levels continue to rise, support will be provided to residents in affected properties.”
