Police are preparing to guard an unexploded bomb overnight at a field outside Brighton.

The device, which is 14 inches long and two inches across, was found by building workers on Southern Water land near Falmer High School, Moulsecoomb, Brighton.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said an army explosive ordnance disposal unit had been informed but the suspected bomb would not be dealt with until daylight on Saturday.

Network Rail was also informed because of the nearby railway line, but it is not thought services have been affected.

UPDATE: A spokesman for Sussex Police confirmed at 8.15pm the suspected bomb was just casing. He added there was no risk and teams are to be stood down.
