A Hollywood movie star, bestselling authors and millionaire musicians have all sought out a Sussex firm for spectacular cake creations.

Oscar-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg looked no further than Brighton institution Choccywoccydoodah when she wanted a very special Statue of Liberty cake for a friend.

Christine Taylor, the owner of the legendary Duke Street chocolate empire, had to carry the Statue of Liberty across the Atlantic to deliver the masterpiece to the Ghost actress.

Revealing some of the secrets set to be seen in the latest series of the documentary following the cake shop crew around, Ms Taylor said: “We have made some amazing cakes for truly amazing people.

“And every cake is designed for a happy ending or a celebration to mark the end of a struggle, it’s an outstanding British tradition.

“Alongside these stories we have been commissioned by proper old fashioned stars – celebrity is simply not the right word to describe these people.

New York call

“Our trip to New York involved meeting Whoopi Goldberg and taking a cake commission for her friend, one of the next New York mayoral candidates, Christine Quinn.

“I spent a blissful hour in the sun, talking cake, life, King Kong and New York with Whoopi.

“And – as though that wasn’t enough, I flew over to LA to meet Jackie Collins. She had an urgent cake request for a party she was throwing to celebrate her 29th book and thank everyone involved in her career to date.

“Jackie was gorgeous, charming and cool. But we seemed to get on and the cake was successfully delivered.”

In the latest series of Choccywoccydoodah – to be screened on the Good Food channel in March – the team will also be seen working on a mermaid for pop singer Katie Melua and a 100 wedding cake commissioned by fashion designer Julien McDonald.

Choccywoccydoodah has been creating unique chocolate sculptures for more than ten years and has become legendary worldwide thanks partially to the fly-on-the-wall TV series.
