Sussex jobs to go as administrators confirm all Jessops stores to shut
Employees at all seven Jessops stores in Sussex face losing their jobs after administrators revealed every shop was to close.
The camera chain went into administration on Wednesday after it had struggled to combat the online market and the rise of camera phones.
Pricewaterhouse Cooper (PwC) were appointed administrators and announced today all the stores will shut, including those in in Brighton, Eastbourne, Horsham, Crawley, Worthing, Hastings and Chichester meaning 62 staff will lose their jobs..
Rob Hunt, joint administrator and partner PwC said: "Since my appointment, we have reviewed the position of the business and held extensive discussions with suppliers around their support for ongoing trading.
“It is apparent that we cannot continue to trade and as a result we have had to make the difficult decision to begin the closure of all 187 Jessops stores at the close of business today.
“Regrettably, this will result in around 1370 job losses across the stores with further job losses likely, in due course, at the head office in Leicester.
“The stock will be collected over the coming days and returned to a central warehouse. It will be returned to suppliers if they are entitled to it. As a consequence of the closure, Jessops is no longer able to accept returned product from customers.
“This is an extremely sad day for Jessops and its employees. We are very grateful for the support we have received since our appointment and we will continue to ensure that employees are paid as they assist us during the closure.”

If you want my opinion high VAT and petrol prices are quietly killing this country. People would be encouraged to spend more if the VAT was 8% like the sales tax on goods in America.

Britain has been led by imbeciles for the past 45 years and it's time for a complete change in our political landscape.

It didn't have to happen and it is wrong. We have lost a serious asset and the city is the poorer for it.

This is a heartbreaker. In weeks and months come expect their bankers to be nailed for this outrage.

The business tanked in 2007/08 no doubt due to the general downturn, after all a camera is a purchase that can be deffered for most people.
I have no doubt if you were to do a bit of digging you would find that the financial takeovers also contributed to the downfall of the company. I feel very sorry for employees and pensioners and those awaiting a pension, the company seems to have been largely owned latterly by them and that equity is now down the pan and the promised pensions on already low wages will now be worse.

What WILL happen is that Pricewaterhouse Cooper, having decided (as "administrators") to close all the stores, will then be closeley involved in the stripping of all remaining assets - at a (very) tidy profit to themselves. See past issues of 'Private Eye' for details (ad nauseam, as they say) of PwC's modus operandi....
Mind you, I blame The Greens for all this. And for everything else.

I used to be very into photography, and Jessops could always be relied on to give free, impartial advice.
