A Fulking mother has stepped up her quest to train people in resuscitation, by getting defibrillators fitted in the village hall and pub.
Experienced health worker, nurse and midwife Tricia Robinson’s 24-year-old daughter Lucie died two years ago. She used her resuscitation skills before the ambulance arrived and has since encouraged people to train in the medical technique for treating heart failure.
Now about 20 of the village’s residents, including staff from the Shepherd and Dog pub, have been trained by the Henfield Area Response Team (HART) to use the two new machines.
Tricia gave money in Lucie’s memory for the defibrillator cases and villagers also raised funds through carol singing. HART founder member Dave Fletcher, an award-winning paramedic, took the first instruction class at the village hall and more sessions are planned.
People living in Edburton and Poynings will also benefit from the Fulking scheme. Villagers wanting to take part in training sessions should contact Tricia on 01273 857255.
