Lorry depot plans have been given the go-ahead – but with restrictions so locals’ sleep is not disturbed.
Veolia applied to create a space for up to 20 vehicles on land next to its incinerator in North Quay, Newhaven, adding its existing depot in Shoreham is not big enough.
Under the plans presented to Lewes District Council, half the lorries would leave the site between 4am and 4.30am Monday to Saturday.
But councillors proposed its operation time was put back to 7am on weekdays and 7.30am on Saturdays.
Councillor Peter Gardiner, who represents South Heighton on the local authority, said: "This is a great relief for local residents.
“We are sure Veolia can organise their work so they do not need to start at four in the morning as they wanted to.”
