Thousands of residents have had their say on extending a resident parking scheme.

Brighton and Hove City Council wants to ask those living in the areas of Round Hill and north of London Road station if they would like to pay for a permit to leave their vehicles outside their homes.

More than 3,000 residents responded with 58% and 56% respectively in favour of parking controls.

Similar plans were rejected by locals in 2009.

Ian Davey, chairman of council’s transport committee, said: “We will take people’s comments into consideration in finding the right balance for residents, business and visitors, to keep traffic moving and to maintain access to premises and local facilities.”

A decision on whether to go forward with the extended zones will be taken by the Transport Committee tomorrow.

If agreed, a traffic order will be published outlining the proposals.
