A new language school has been given the go-ahead – but only if it adjusts its hours.

Worthing-based firm Hargreaves Management applied to convert the ground and first floor of the former offices at the junction of Queens Road and Upper Gloucester Road, Brighton.

The four-storey building forms part of the West Hill conservation area and is next to a Grade II listed building.

Brighton and Hove City Council’s planning committee approved the plans at its meeting last week.

However, Green councillor Phelim MacCafferty said he believed the proposed opening hours until 10pm was too late and would cause antisocial behaviour to residents.

As a result, the school can only open from 8am to 9pm Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 8pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
