Boost for Friends First organisation

A homelessness charity has been given a boost by a supermarket.

Friends First was given £345 by the Waitrose store in Western Road, Brighton, as part of its community matters initiative.

Richard Hunter – a former resident of the Friends First House – described how the charity had been instrumental in turning his life around.

He said: “Friends First gives people a chance to take a fresh look at themselves and their lives, and move on, hopefully from things that might have been holding them back or keeping them in a particular lifestyle.”

“Friends First gave me protection. I didn’t have to worry so much about financial problems. I still have financial problems with missed payments from work. I hate to think what would have happened if I’d still have been living on my own.

“Living at Friends First gave me peace and mind and security. It’s also like a family community; you’re respected like a brother or sister, which is lovely. I stayed at the Friends House for two years it sharpened me to think that I actually want to work in the community and be a positive help to people.”
