Brighton's Royal Pavilion ice rink extends stay Brighton's Royal Pavilion ice rink extends stay

A popular ice rink in the shadow of a royal palace will stay – for an extra five weeks.

Thousands of visitors have taken a spin around the temporary attraction in the grounds of the Royal Pavilion in Brighton this winter.

It was due to close for the season on Sunday. But bosses have now confirmed they will stay on until February 24.

Shella Parkin, of Laine Ltd, which manages the rink, said: “We are thrilled to be staying on and will be offering a 20% discount this Sunday January 20 to support the Royal Pavilion’s Free Day celebration of the anniversary of the City purchasing the stunning palace in 1850.”

Numerous celebrities have visited in recent week including Eastenders’ star Patsy Palmer.

It has also attracted many film crews from national TV programmes, including hosting its first wedding for an episode of BBC’s ‘Don’t tell the Bride’ last month.

The rink will also be extending its off peak hours Monday to Thursday all day and on Fridays until 4.15pm from February 21.

Tickets cost from £10 for adults and £7 for children under 12 and the one-hour skate times run from 10am to 10.15pm daily.

Good news. We went there to skate this week and had a great time. The restaurant and bar should be made permanent IMO. Excellent snack food provided by the Jamie Oliver organization.
I thought it was all going to be a bit pants, but it wasn't. The ice rink is a decent size, and the ice is cleaned and re frozen before each session.

Who would have thought ice skating would be popular in Brighton. Maybe some sort of indoor type of place would be of use as well. There may even be some different types of sports using ice inside that might be of interest to people also.

This shows that there is the demand for a permanent skating venue in Brighton...or Hove. Get behind the proposals for an ice rink at the King Alfred site..
