Art lovers have been flooding through the doors of a 17th-century mansion to see how one of the country’s top painters depicted Sussex.
The Turner’s Sussex exhibition at Petworth House, which brings together the works of JMW Turner’s paintings of the county, has enjoyed a sell-out first weekend.
Included in the exhibition of 40 carefully selected loans from national collections such as the Tate, the V&A and the British Museum, is Turner’s depiction of Bodiam Castle, which has not been displayed for more than 150 years.
The collection is being held in the newly refurbished gallery in its servants’ quarters.
Booking is essential for the exhibition, which closes on March 13, and details are available at www.nationaltrust. org.uk/petworth
