Driver crashed into Sussex schoolchildren and then drove off

A driver ploughed into a group of schoolchildren in heavy snow - and then sped off. 

Just before 10.30am yesterday the a dark grey BMW 3 series left the road in Imberhorne Lane, East Grinstead.

The car struck a lamp post before crashing into four children, causing them cuts and bruises, before going into a hedge.

It then made off leaving the three teenage girls and a boy injured and on the ground. 

Three were taken to the East Surrey Hospital for treatment and observation.

Sergeant Mark Baker said: "The teenagers were just outside the school entrance when the car mounted the pavement and struck them. They fortunately have suffered only minor injuries but are shaken by the incident.

"The car was found abandoned in Fellwater Court nearby where it two men were seen to walk from it.

"I would urge the men to come forward. They are described as white. One was wearing a black hoodie, the other a dark top."

Anyone who recognises them or has any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting serial 0395 18/1 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Let me guess. The owner had left it with the engine running to warm it up and unlocked with the key in the ignition.

lot of uninsured foreign drivers around at the moment,they buy english cars and just drive them around ,i know of quite a few in brighton personally

What a heartless thing to do after knocking over four young people, to just drive off and leave them there - these two men really do need 5 minutes with each set of parents in a room to teach them not to do it again.

As stupid as the driver seems its a pity that the Argus seem so wedded to their headlines - ‘driver crashed’ and ‘driver ploughed’ - neither of these statements sen true given that the injuries were left with ‘cuts and bruises”. Luckily, the Argus headlines are exaggerated otherwise I fear they would have suffered more than that.

Top post my friend.But yet again nothing being done about it.The police should find these two bits of s--m and put them before the courts.Shock its a BMW.Them & the rich Range Rover drivers,drive around Brighton every day like they are above the law,and with their mobiles to their ear.Saw a guy in a Range Rover almost kill two people outside the Royal sussex on Friday.He had a 55k car,but won't spend a few pounds on a hands free kit.But then that wouldn't cool would it lol.

Surprise, surprise, a BMW driver. Without any bias, almost every BMW driver I see is a first-class idiot - arrogant and a speed-merchant. No surprise that on the local news last night, most of the drivers acting stupidly in the snow and ice WERE BMW drivers.

Easy of course for police to trace 'foreign drivers of BMWs' - not!! Like with cyclists it is all but impossible to find recalcitrant individuals with only face recognition measures!
BMW, opulent 4x4s, Audi, Mercedes, all seem to regard the crown of the road as theirs and the 8m space behind mere mass-produced tin cans to be occupied as their ability to predict road conditions ahead is miraculous!!
