Food banks are set to receive a funding boost to cope with increasing demand.

West Sussex County Council’s local committees are being advised to give the remainder of their community funding for this year to food banks desperate for help.

The committees usually give grants to community groups upon request but are being advised to donate at least some of their remaining money to increasingly under-strain food banks.

The West Crawley committee has £10,000 remaining and has already received requests totalling £7,000 from three local groups.

A decision on allocating money will be made on January 23.
