Three Sussex Blockbuster stores will close

It has been confirmed three Sussex Blockbuster stores will close.

Branches will shut in Peacehaven, Hastings and Shoreham.

Overall Blockbuster will shut 129 of its 528 stores in the coming weeks and make 760 of its 4,190 employees redundant, its administrator confirmed today.

Thirty-one stores have already been put on notice of closure with a number of closing-down promotions announced.

Lee Manning, of administrator Deloitte, said: "Having reviewed the portfolio with management, the store closure plan is an inevitable consequence of having to restructure the company to a profitable core which is capable of being sold.

"We would like to thank the company's employees for their support and professionalism during this difficult time.

"We are also grateful to the customers for their continued support."

The administrator said an employee helpline and an "employee assistance programme" are in place to help staff find other jobs.

No great loss really. Most of the staff sat out the back watching movies and made the customers feel guilty for disturbing them when they wanted to pay for rentals. Also another example of a company not moving with the times.

'O' no ! it will turn into another 'Fast Food Outlet'. Peacehaven is fast becoming a Take-Away Mecca.

That's because most people in Peacehaven can't cook.

Agreed. The last time I went into a branch, I waited at the counter for quite a few minutes while the chav-ette who "worked" there finished chatting to her mate on her mobile. When she finally deigned to find out whether I wanted anything, the conversation ran thus:
me: "Hi, do you have any Tim Burton films?"
chav-ette: "dunno, wossee been in?" (starts to fiddle with her phone)
me: "don't worry, I'll use the internet"
Maybe if Blockbuster had instigated a policy of not solely employing teenage f*cktards, they'd still be in business.

Also, is it just me, or is the Argus website getting more and more crap? It keeps crashing, and then quotes the wrong previous comment (I was actually responding to Hove Park Residence's first comment)
I'm off to get drunk.

Sign of the times and it's no co-incidence that a High Street music/video retailer has gone bust at the same time as a film rental company. There aren't that many coal merchants or paraffin heater showrooms left either.

My reel-to-reel tape recorder is playing up. Is there an experienced technician in the area who could fix it?
