Police are warning 4x4 drivers to take care after a spate of crashes.

Inspector Lee Lyons told The Argus that 4x4 vehicles were not immune to crashing.

He said: “Even if you are driving a 4x4 in the ice and snow you need to take car and drive to the conditions.

“They are not immune to skidding.

“We have responded to crashes where 4x4 vehicles have gone off the road.”

On Saturday night a 4x4 overturned in Eatenden Lane, Mountfield, near Battle. No one was injured.

4x4 or not, unless you have studded tyres, ice=slide. As most 4x4s are top heavy, and even trained police drivers treat them with caution, the average driver is at greater risk in a 4x4 due to misplaced confidence.

I keep seeing 4x4 trying to get up hills with just the back wheels spinning. Which leads me to the conclusion that there are owners of such vehicles who don't know how to engage various functions on their gearboxes.

in my opinion, 4x4 drivers, generally, are a----holes anyway, and some of the worst drivers on the roads!

most 4x4's are a car makers gimmick, very few are really suitable for extreme conditions....many drivers think they are bulletproof.
