Police have warned drivers to take care after a spate of crashes – and said 4x4 drivers were not exempt.

A 4x4 spun out of control on Saturday night on a country lane, flipping over.

Inspector Lee Lyons said: “Even if you are driving a 4x4 in the ice and snow you need to take car and drive to the conditions.

“They are not immune to skidding.

“We have responded to crashes where 4x4 vehicles have gone off the road.”

The crash took place in Eatenden Lane, Mountfield, near Battle.

At 10.30am on the A267 near Bunny Lane, Frant, people were seriously injured in a head-on collision.

Firefighters cut the roof off a car following the crash.

A Sussex Police spokesman said that there were “serious injuries” and urged people to avoid the area.

He added: “It was reported to us as a head-on collision involving two cars.”

Police also reported icy road conditions on the A27 between Wilmington and Polegate, near Eastbourne, yesterday (SUN) morning.

This caused a vehicle to come off road.

Police added there were “treacherous conditions with 4x4s becoming stuck” in Hammerpond Road, Horsham.

PC Jon Attfield, for Peacehaven, said: “Firle Road is very snowy so take care.”
