A workman has been badly injured in a fall at the front of a hotel in Eastbourne.

The man, in his 30s, was airlifted to hospital in London after he was injured outside the Claremont Hotel at about 3pm today.

Sussex Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating what happened.

Police described the man as having "fallen from a height while at work".

The junction of Cavendish Place and the A259, Seaside, was closed while the Sussex Air Ambulance and police worked at the scene.

Staff at the hotel have declined to comment on what happened.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 101, quoting serial 964 of January 22.
