Abandoned dog loses fight for life

 A STARVING dog left tied up and abandoned outside a pub in the cold has died.

The severely emaciated Rottweiler was being cared for at the RSPCA kennels in Patcham when it collapsed.

Despite the efforts of vets and the RSPCA staff, the dog, nicknamed Hero, was in such a poor condition that he was not strong enough to survive.

RSPCA Patcham manager Jenny Wells said: “It was heartbreaking.

“He was putting on weight slowly, but because he had been starved his body was simply not working properly – irrevocable damage had been done.

“He collapsed and was rushed to a vet who advised that he should be put to sleep to end his suffering.”

The charity has now renewed its appeal for information on two women who were caught on CCTV camera leaving the dog outside the Crown Hotel in Littlehampton in December.

Hero weighed less than half his normal body weight when he was abandoned by the women, pictured below, one of whom was believed to be heavily pregnant.

Anyone with information about the incident, or about the women involved, is being asked to call the RSPCA, which is still investigating the case.

How can anyone inflict such pain and suffering on a poor helpless creature? I wonder if they'll do it to their baby, if caught maybe social services should put the child on the at risk register.

Poor little darling. I can't believe no one has shopped the scumbags that dumped this poor dog. Please find these cruel b......d's and make them pay dearly for this callous, cruelty! Sadly, it's too late for this tragic animal but its not too late to hunt down these hideous people who did this awful thing to that poor creature. Someone out there must have an inkling who might have been the owners of this unfortunate dog! please come forward even if you wish to keep your identity private and bring justice for the poor little mite.

Heartbreaking. Stories like this make me despair. I think we have to be very careful about apportioning blame in a knee-jerk way though. It is highly plausible that these women were hoping to 'rescue' the dog from its cruel owners, maybe violent partners/husbands. We just don't know their circumstances or motives. To 'abandon' a dog outside a pub is not the same as abandoning a dog in some remote place or chucking it in a canel. We have to assume they wanted to save the dog - otherwise why would they have bothered?

So very sad. That poor dog would never have known love or kindness until he was too sick to understand it. RIP.

If anyone can't cope with a dog or wants to give it up for whatever reason, please take it to the nearest vet, kennels or call the RSPCA. Don't dump it outside in this weather.

Another good reason why we need dog licenses in this country. £100 to £500 on a sliding scale of weight.

This would also pay for the 100s of wardens we would need to control this law.

this breaks my heart, these animals are chosen by us and ask for nothing more than our love and attention, to abandon a dg in this way is heartless when other options are available like rehoming through rspca or local dogs trust.
I hope this news haunts the poor dogs owners for a very long time we dont know who they are but they do an I hope the shame is avery heavy burdon to bear

i now live in cyprus ,where animasdont seem to count for much,,since being here my wife and i have seem so much cruelty its hard to believe,we know its not only in these kind of countries that this goes on ,so seeing this article regarding this por dog, our hrear goes out to the poor creature, only one positive hing to arrive is that the dog cant suffer anymore ,thanks to the care it got from the r.s,p.c.a.we have rescued several cats/dogs and have homed them with decent people. and ourselve taken in two stray cats and one dog.now we are planning to return to uk, and bringing the animls with us, this is at a cost of almost 1500 ,euros,but hey the alternative is to dump them as was done before!!!cant do it so look out uk here we come. p,s, we hope that the people/person responsible for the ill treatment of this poor dog ,gets whats due too them in the after life,

Their circumstances don't matter they could have called the RSPCA and reported the cruel owners! instead they abandoned the poor thing, leaving it to die. No punishment will ever be good enough for them.

I agree with you 100% - I think for the 1st time!

These two must be found and quickly as no baby should be left with someone who cruelly treats a young dog in this way, they obviously aren't mentally capable of looking after a dog and a baby is far more challenging - so do the right thing and if you know who these fat twosome are - contact crimestoppers annomously - just give their names, addresses or whatever you know about them. Do the right thing for the memory of this dog and for the baby.

The poor little fella.How can people do such a thing? I have a little Jack Russel and her name is Bambi.She is 3 years old and since I have had her when she was a couple of months old I have bought her up as a child rather than a dog.She can not only understand single words but entire sentences.People are really amazed at how intelligent she is.She loves playing football and country walks.I wonder how many doggies get a roast dinner everyday? I love watching her tuck into roast beef,roast potatoes,peas and gravy.Her other meals include,roast chicken,corn on the cob,bangers,mash and gravy,sandwiches,Chi
nese,Mcdonalds,Diges
tive biscuits dunked in tea etc.I have never given her doggy food because it is old cold gunge in a tin.She is fit and healthy with a shiny coat and people cannot beleive the amount of energy she has.she is so fit! then to top it all she snuggles up with me in bed.She loves her bed.What with this cold weather we have two duvets.I know the story is about a poor dog which lost it's life do to cruelity and a lot of people are going to be very distressed,but I thought that I would tell a story about my little girl to try and cheer people up a bit.P.S.Bambi has her own website on Facebook! if you would like to visit her,go on Facebook and type in BAMBI GUNN. lots of kisses to all you animal lovers out there and lots of love and cuddles to all the mis-treated and abandoned animals from Bambi.

please have a good look at the video and see if you can help find these two women. Don't take notice of the colour of things as it may look like 1 has fair hair but it may be black. Also 1 looks heavily pregnant and is wearing glasses, also carrying a full plastic carrier bag, (maybe a bit of late night shopping)? do you know anybody this video could match up with? Looks like she is wearing leggings but may have bare legs and socks on. Also coat design, Duffle coat and short skirt/shorts? Other woman has a hat on, wearing thick calf high boots and wears glasses also. Coat design has lots of buttons and a line acroos the shoulders eppilets? Do they match up with the two on this video? The dog has a coat on too. Stripe on side might be hi-viz, Please think back the crown hotel in littlehampton 5th december 10.05pm. Did you see these two women walking in the area perhaps? Maybe saw them leave a house with this dog? Please contact the RSPCA if you have any information. They need to be caught :-(

Sickening.. I spent alot of my growing up life in and around the Littlehampton area and got to know a fair amount of people.. Hence to say, this has been stuck on my FB page and alot of my friends have shared it too... These 2 witches won't stay hidden for long.

If they ever get caught, they will more than likely get slapped wrists... but hopefully they will be named...

Burning at the stake !!... too kind for these 2.. Public humiliation, flogging and stoning is in order here..

So so sad. Poor dog, they give us trust and love and ask for so little in return...I cannot understand how anyone's heart could be so cold as to do this. I wish I knew who they are. I rescued my gorgeous dog at 5mths old and she is terrified of men with sticks or limps...so someone must have hurt at such a young age. Yes dog licensing and people should have to pass a dog care course before they get one. RIP Hero x

It's very sad to read this follow-up from the original story last month. There is absolutely no excuse for this, and I can't believe some of the people excusing what happened here. "At least they put the dog somewhere where it would be found." Would you say that if it was a child, who had been starved until it was a skeleton and left out in the cold? Leaving any living thing in that condition in the cold is almost certainly committing it to death, and the alternative of taking it to a rehoming centre would've been effortless for them. I hope they're found soon and made to suffer for what they've done, horrible horrible women.

No, I advocate torture in such circumstances. And whilst of sane mind, I would happily administer it.

I have a 50 day plan involving a different broken bone a day for 32 days. Then the taking of away of functions like eyes, tongue and ears.

The final day will involve a cork in the bot-bot and force fed 12 bottles of syrup of figs.

That'll teach them not to be cruel to innocent dogs.
