A heartless conman tricked a woman and stole money from her.

The man, pretending to be from Southern Water, paid a visit to the woman, aged in her 60s, at her home in Carnegie Close, Worthing, on January 14.

He said he needed to turn the water off in the house. The woman let him inside and into the kitchen where he appeared to search for the stop tap. The victim left the man alone in the property at times and when he left he said he would be back with some paperwork for her to sign. He did not return.

After he had left the woman realised that cash had been stolen from the property.

DC Emma Cruise said: “This is obviously a very upsetting incident for the victim who has lost a large amount of money as a result.”

Call Sussex Police on 101 if you have information about the incident.
